Colleen Atwood collaborates with Swarovski on NINE


Academy Award winning costume designer Colleen Atwood, collaborates with Swarovski on NINE to create a show stopping spectacle that sparkles throughout. Over 1 million CRYSTALLIZED - Swarovski Elements are used to embellish the costumes of the all star cast.

Rob Marshall, Oscar nominated director of Chicago, presents NINE, a vibrant and provocative musical that follows the life of world famous film director Guido Contini as he reaches a creative and personal crisis of epic proportion, while balancing the numerous women in his life including his wife, his mistress, his film star muse, his confidant and costume designer, a young American fashion journalist, the whore from his youth and his mother. The original 1982 Broadway production of “NINE,” nominated for twelve Tony Awards and winning five, including Best Musical, was directed by Tommy Tune, choreographed by Thommie Walsh, starred Raúl Juliá with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston and book by Arthur Kopit. The 2003 Broadway revival of “NINE” received eight Tony Award nominations and won two, including Best Revival of a Musical.

Crystal adorns thirty-six costumes including a crystal mesh dress worn by Kate Hudson, a basque worn by Penélope Cruz, an evening dress worn by Nicole Kidman and twenty-five showgirl outfits in the Folies Bergeres number. The dazzling costumes feature 9 different crystal applications in 31 styles and 22 various colours.

Swarovski & Rockwell Bring New And Fresh Look To Oscar Set

David Rockwell reinvents the set of the 81st Annual Academy Awards with custom designed Swarovski Crystal curtains that will create a sparkling rainbow illuminating the grand arch of the Kodak Theatre, a building Rockwell's firm designed seven years ago. The curtains will shimmer with over 100,000 Swarovski crystals flown in especially from Austria and will stand an awe inspiring 60 feet tall and 100 feet wide.

This is the second time Swarovski crystal has graced the stage of the Academy Awards and this year promises to be even more of a stunning surprise with the curtains weighing in at three tons and being comprised of over 6,000 one-meter hand crafted strands.

"We could not think of a better partner than Swarovski to fulfill our vision of not just a curtain, but a frame to capture all the elegance, excitement and high-fashion that is the Academy Awards," added David Rockwell, founder and CEO of Rockwell Group.
